Hello, I’m Lakshmi.
Everyone’s story is different, and I see each person as the expert in their own life. My role is to walk alongside you, offering support and practical strategies.
I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Educational and Developmental Psychologist with a background in child development, early childhood attachment, and adult attachment-focused therapy. Since completing my Master of Educational and Developmental Psychology at QUT, I’ve worked across private practice, Queensland Health’s Child and Youth Mental Health Services, and schools, supporting children, young people, adults, and families.
My work is shaped by a passion for nurturing secure relationships and understanding the impact of attachment on wellbeing. Whether you’re facing change, feeling stuck, or wanting to better understand yourself or your child, I draw on evidence-based approaches to help you find clarity and confidence. I also provide assessments for learning, development, and behaviour.
Alongside my clinical work, I enjoy supervising early career psychologists and those working towards their Educational and Developmental Endorsement. Supporting others in the profession is an important part of my practice.
My hope is that you will feel seen, heard, and supported. So you can move forward at your own pace, and make space for what matters most to you.

The middle is messy, but it is also where the magic happens.

Our approach to care & connection
At Red String Psychology, we know that feeling better isn’t just about talking things through - it’s about looking at the whole picture, including your mind, body, and what’s happening around you. We work with young people, adults, and families. Every session is shaped around what matters most to you, in a space that’s inclusive, respectful, and welcoming to all backgrounds.
Our approach is down-to-earth, evidence-based, and always centred on you. Depending on what you need, we might draw on:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Attachment Theory
- Schema Informed Therapy
- Mindfulness techniques
- Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
Rather than sticking to a one-size-fits-all model, we get to know you and what’s going on in your life. That way, we can find practical steps together that actually make a difference – whether you’re dealing with anxiety, tough life changes, stress, or just feeling stuck.
If you’ve got questions or want to know more, just reach out. You’re welcome to call or send a message any time.
Frequently Asked Questions
We know starting something new can leave you wondering what to expect. Here are some things people often ask. If you need more info, just let us know.
What happens in the first session?
It’s normal to feel a bit nervous before your first visit. We’ll take things at your pace, getting to know you and what’s brought you here. You can share as much or as little as you like.
We’ll talk about what you want help with, answer any questions, and work out together how things might look going forward.
Where are you located?
Red String Psychology is located at 2/6 Pavilions Close, DFO Jindalee, and at 68/283 Given Terrace, Paddington, QLD 4064.
What if Psychology is not for me?
That’s completely fine. Lots of people aren’t sure at first. You can ask any questions, try a session, and see how you feel. There’s no pressure – you’re welcome to just reach out for a chat before deciding.
How much do sessions cost?
If you have a valid GP referral and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), you’ll receive a Medicare rebate of $145.25, which brings the out-of-pocket cost to $139.75 per session.
We understand that therapy is an important investment in your wellbeing, and we are always happy to chat about how rebates and referrals work if you’re unsure where to start.
Do you offer telehealth services?
Yes, we do. If coming in isn’t practical or you just feel more comfortable at home, telehealth sessions are available by phone or video. It’s easy to set up, and you’ll get the same support as you would in person.
How long does each session run for?
Most sessions go for about 50 minutes. This gives us enough time to talk things through without feeling rushed. If you need something different, just let us know and we can chat about what suits best.
What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give at least two business days’ notice. Cancellations with less notice may incur a fee, as outlined in our cancellation policy. This helps us keep appointments available for others.
